Spectacular Sponsors -- Susan Brodie of Muses; Art for Living

For the next several weeks, I'd like to introduce to you the wonderful people and businesses who have donated their time and resources to help with my room in the Design House this year.  I am so grateful for their contributions -- I truly could not do it without them!
I was introduced to Susan Brodie of Muses though Patina Antiques, where her floor cloths and doggie mats were on display.  I was so thrilled that she agreed to paint a custom cloth for my room, as she has been working hard to open her own shop, directly beside Patina.  Muses; Art for Living, has much more than Susan's beautiful rugs.  The shop features art of all forms - from canvas to wood to wool and more.

Susan has a terrific eye and skillful hand.  She creates beautiful free form and geometric designs and is able to do custom work, as I am displaying in my room.  Her floorcloth is going to be an amazing feature in my room!
Thank you, Susan!

Spectacular Sponsors -- Patina Antiques, etc.

For the next several weeks, I'd like to introduce to you the wonderful people and businesses who have donated their time and resources to help with my room in the Design House this year.  I am so grateful for their contributions -- I truly could not do it without them!

I have had so much fun "shopping" in this fun store for accessories for my room.  Ellen and Maureen are very helpful and even kept my daughter occupied while I did my thing!  Located on Ivy Road, Patina Antiques, etc. carries an exciting assortment of furniture and home decor items, some vintage, some new, but all interesting and delightful.

From their website:
Patina Antiques, etc.’s mix of antiques, vintage and new merchandise – a true hodge podge – runs the gamut from fine antiques to the fun and functional.  We like to say you’ll find “some things 19th century…some things $19.”

Dash and Albert Rug
In addition to vintage furnishings, decorative accessories, and antiques, Patina displays local art, carries Pine Cone Hill bedding and Company C and  Dash and Albert rugs.
Be sure to look for their cute white dog in my room!

Prices on the fabrics in the store cannot be beat.  U-Fab sells fabric close-outs and has a basement bargain area where remnants are $2.99/yard!

Spectacular Sponsors -- Maya Wood

For the next several weeks, I'd like to introduce to you the wonderful people and businesses who have donated their time and resources to help with my room in the Design House this year.  I am so grateful for their contributions -- I truly could not do it without them!

Before I committed to participating in the Design House, I made sure I could get this guy on board.  Maya Wood, Fine Home Improvements is an invaluable asset for a designer.  He really knows what he's talking about, tells you like it is and gets the job done.

I met Maya  while he worked on a project for my own home.  He made my vision for above my garage doable and attractive.  Hopefully my wisteria will love this trellis as much as I do!

He is also responsible for the built-ins in this makeover:

For the design house, Maya has been my go-to guy for installation of trim, light fixtures and he's made a custom piece to help me deal with some space-planning challenges.

Spectacular Sponsors - Sherwin Williams and Expertise Painting

For the next several weeks, I'd like to introduce to you the wonderful people and businesses who have donated their time and resources to help with my room in the Design House this year.  I am so grateful for their contributions -- I truly could not do it without them!

This week, I am featuring the first layer of the room transformation, the paint.

The paint used in my room is from Sherwin Williams.  The gentlemen at Sherwin Williams have been extremely helpful and eager to show off their products.  The walls are covered in Duration interior latex paint after a coat (or 2) of primer.  The ceiling is Classic 99.  Changing from dark red to soft cream can be difficult to do, but with these products and  great painters, the walls and ceiling turned out great.

Speaking of great painters, a big thank you goes to Expertise Painting for their wonderful paint job.  Ask my husband, I cannot paint to save my life.   I am so lucky these guys saved me from having to try!
Dan Kirby, Expertise Painting
Lead by Dan Kirby, Expertise Painting does both interior and exterior painting as well as some repairs, cleaning and sealing.  They were extremely quick and efficient and I am thrilled with the result.  The walls in my room were transformed from this:

Basement Playroom

This before photo isn't really fair; this room was completely new at the start of our project.  The homeowner already had the plans for the bookcase and chose the paint color.
Talk about bare bones!

We added custom wall decor with a framed beveled mirror and a bulletin board with magnetic, chalkboard pinboard and pocket details to flank the bookcase wall.

Fun fabrics on the built-in benches and throw pillows.

What a great place to play!

Need assistance with putting together a playroom?  I'd love to help!
