Functional Family Room

This makeover is for a busy family with three beautiful boys who have finally reached the age where they don't need a lot of floorspace to play.  The home has a large family room that was in need of revamping to fit the homeowner's lifestyle.

Before, despite having plenty of seating, this space is not appropriate for conversation and the large television blocks the beautiful corner window.

Now, there is still plenty of space to sit, but all within talking distance.  The television above the fireplace allows for viewing from the large sectional and the windows get simple panels that give the space height and warmth.

The family chose a very large sectional that gives plenty of seating but does not make the room seem cramped -- proof that furniture can be moved away from walls!

Here is another view of the room before.  The homeowner needed a place to take care of her home-based business.  By bringing the sectional forward in the room, away from the wall, we were able to add a desk area.

Newly reupholstered chairs flank the fireplace.
Wall sconces add lighting and make for great spots to read on the sectional.

Red accents provide a splash of color:
Red Lanterns at the fireplace,
Red lacquered fleur de lis mirrors and
a big red ottoman that provides storage too!

Family photos are displayed in the desk area, making this room feel like home.
