"Sweet" Playroom

This playroom is a terrific space for two beautiful little girls who are well-loved by their parents and grandparents and it shows.  The initial portion of this transformation began with the work of Jennifer Zoll of Zoll Consulting to help the family organize the amazing collection of toys.
Once the playthings were corralled, we did some rearranging of the room and added a little cupcake magic with a fun vibrant color scheme in turquoise, red, hot pink and chocolate brown.  Cheerful pennants in cupcake fabric add a focal point to the room in addition to the oversized drum shade light fixture.

From Office to Retreat

This makeover is almost unrecognizable from the before photo.  The homeowner wanted to use her former office space for a guest bedroom.  By relocating furniture pieces from elsewhere in the home and adding finishing touches, the room was completely transformed.   The gorgeous ceiling light fixture in the before photo was the inspiration for the design of the room.

The dusty peach color of the walls warms the room and highlights the coved ceilings. Artwork already owned by the homeowner has similar hues.

Linen drapes with copper foil print and peach bouillion fringe frame the window and pinch pleated sheers  provide privacy.

Custom throw pillows add interest to the neutral bed linens. I found this antique brooch at an antique store.  It adds the perfect vintage-y touch to this amazing makeover.

Cramped to Comfortable Family Room

This large family had just moved into their home and needed some guidance with their new great room.  Using the vintage bicycle artwork the homeowner already had for design inspiration, we came up with a warm and comfortable place for the whole family to relax.
The oversized sectional found a new home in the entertainment room in the basement.  New window valances add height and warmth to the windows.  A soft butterscotch leather sofa and loveseat better fit the space and a pretty red recliner provides a reading nook by the fireplace.

The family wall artfully displays family memories.
I love to create bookcase displays. Meaningful family objects from Dad's favorite fire truck to items to show their love of bicycling really show who lives here.

The kitchen area got a makeover too.

A new larger table with slate inserts, an oversized clock and floral drapery panels add visual interest.
Lanterns above the island and a white ceramic vignette above the cabinets are focal points, adding height to the room.

Embellishing

If you've looked at the rest of my blog at all, you may have noticed my love for all things shopping.  Combined with my passion for interior decorating, I can't really think of a job more suited for me than to shop for accessories for a room.  I visited with the homeowners of this space last spring.  Armed with a DIY plan from me, they began the makeover process.  I think they learned along the way how difficult it is to fully finish everything and still have some big items to purchase, but they were ready for things to start getting polished and gave me a call.  Today's post shows a little accessorizing to move them toward a gorgeous, functional room.

Before, the walls were very neutral and the scale of everything on the fireplace wall was too small.

Now, the fireplace wall is a feature in a robin's egg blue.  The large artwork is a much better scale for the fireplace and diverts your attention from the television.  New custom cabinets provide storage and a place for display  Tall table lamps add light and a touch of whimsy.

The existing drapes got a new life with floral trim, a new rug in blue with cream and caramel accents and a blue lamp shade tie everything together.
Those new throw pillows and mohair throw will look great on a new sofa someday!
Stay tuned - hopefully someday soon this will become a full-fledged Makeover!
Are you needing some assistance with accessorizing your room?  I'd love to help!

A Delicious Tasting Room

I am so excited to share this Makeover  -- my first true Embellish design!!!  Today, I am featuring my amazing friend's formal living room.  Anita, of Maliha Creations, uses her formal living room for tastings of her gorgeous and equally delicious cakes.  I wanted to make this room showcase her beautiful cake designs and create an elegant atmosphere for those lucky brides and grooms-to-be during their cake consultations.
I was so anxious to get my hands on this project, I neglected to take before photos.  Please forgive me; I think the design is exciting enough to be featured on its own, no?
Just to prove there are no real "rules" for decorating, I chose a deep grey for the walls of this relatively small room -- I love it when a homeowner has faith in my "vision" despite their own reservations!.  To offset the dark tone of the walls, I used simple cotton duck panels with grommeted tops.  Hanging them from the ceiling gives the room height and the long cream panels add drama.
A new cream velvet sofa with clean lines allows for comfortable guest seating.  Above it, three framed photos taken by Susan Kalergis show an artful interpretation of baking instruments in Sepia tones photographed in Anita's own kitchen.  Anita's daughter supplied the artwork for the opposite wall, a mixed-media cake in acrylic and glitter.

A new rug adds softness and ties in the color of the striped chairs already in the room.  A new stainless steel table displays Anita's own pieces of art.  A new drum shade pendant finishes off a jewel box of a room to match the gems on display.

Sophisticated Master Suite

The homeowners had the bed, the armoire, the nightstands, the dresser and couldn't believe I wanted to add more!  I used their modern, art deco inspired furniture and the grey-blue from their bed linens as inspiration, and put the finishing touches on the master bedroom and en-suite.

The gorgeous metallic paisley wallpaper is the main feature as you enter the space.  Light reflects from the modern fan onto the brushed silver metallic tray ceiling. Wide striped grey and brown taffeta drapes add drama and soften the window.

More sparkle was added with a mirrored vanity, accent mirror and silver studs on the cubes at the foot of the bed and on the blue velvet chair.
