Ready for out of town guests

This homeowner wanted to create a retreat for her family when they came to visit for the holidays.

Before, this space was just bland.
I added beautiful paisley bedding in silver and gold with a sprinkle of metallic sparkle and some pearl accents to create a relaxing retreat for visitors.
An oversized metal trellis creates visual interest and adds height to the room and a little furniture rearranging makes the room more accessible.  A mirror doubles to light coming from the new mercury glass lamp.
Beaded tassels hold back the silk drapery panels.

Pearl accent pillows
I relocated the photos from above the headboard to a side wall
and hung them from a ribbon on a porcelain knob.

Simple accessories.

Ready for company!

That was quick!

My very own Design Star Challenge!!
Empty condo in need of complete furnishings; from televisions to towels, mattress to pots and pans.
Timeframe: 10 days - including 4 weekend days and Thanksgiving holiday
Client requests:  CB2/Design Within Reach styling; two 55" flatscreens, a king sized bed, Ansel Adams-type art (I never met him; only his personal assistant!)
Limited Budget.
I wanted to do this so badly that I didn't admit my plans to spend Thanksgiving in WV.  That meant I needed to complete the job technically in 6 days.  That meant no internet ordering, purchasing furniture directly from the showroom and lots of legwork and phone calls begging for quick delivery.  With some help from my amazing family, I was able to finish the project.  Here it is.  Let me know what you think!

Here's the condo I was given:
Here's what it looks like now:

Before:
Now:

These cool green mercury glass vases were the
inspiration for my pops of acid green to liven
the masculine blacks, browns and greys in the space.

The dining area before:
Here it is now:

Cool acrylic chairs and glass-topped table
are anchored with a sisal rug.   Black and
white artwork above a glossy white sideboard
is accented with a green glass lamp.

Another pop of green in the place setting at the table.

The Bedroom:
A cool, crisp white bedspread with white sheets with a totally cool reptile textured quilt accent dresses the bed.  Drawers under the platform bed provide storage.
And, how about those amazing mohair pillows?!

A desk area in the bedroom allows for a workspace.

Here's the crew at work:
My parents purchased furniture for me in Pittsburgh, PA.  My father drove to Charlottesville with a carload and worked all day assembling furniture for me.
My always amazing husband provided handyman services and much needed support and my daughter wanted everything for her room.
Kurt Lenhert installed one of the huge televisions before he left for NC to be with family.

There are, of course, more things I'd like to do to the space and plan on sharing them with my client and with you too.
Thanks for taking a look!

Quick bathroom update

I just realized my last post was from Halloween.......
November has been one crazy month for Embellish Interiors and EyeCandy and I am a little worse for wear these days!
That being said, I did have a chance to finish up a few projects and wanted to share them with you.

Here's a little bathroom update.
BEFORE:
The walls were stark and the room was just functional.

I added a dramatic drape to highlight the window.  I like to use drawer pulls and drapery rings for pulling back stationary window treatments.
They hold the drape in place so it can be swagged more easily and they are a pretty feature.
Love this rich, dramatic paisley fabric from U-Fab.

We swapped out the builder's special huge mirror and put up beautiful mirrors with a little more personality.

These are such amateur photos - please ignore my hand in the mirror!

The cabinets are dressed up with apothecary jars filled with bathroom items;
bath salts, sea sponges, cotton balls, and Q-tips.

The drape is pulled back with a gorgeous tassel.  The acrylic top coordinates with the other clear glass elements in the room.

Happy Halloween!

This time of year, my holiday decor is overshadowed by children's costumes and parties, but here's a look at my creepy skull themed dining room.  Maybe next year we'll have a blood-curdling adult soiree!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

All American Girl Birthday Party

Oh, how I love throwing a birthday party!  I am so thrilled to share with you a party I designed for my daughter's birthday party last year.  Featuring a dessert display from our sister company, EyeCandy, this theme is so fun and I am proud to show off how cute everything turned out!!  While much of this is on EyeCandy's blog (see it here) , I wanted to highlight some of the decor elements for you too.

I chose red white and blue for the American Girl theme, with circles from the birthday girl's 8 and little touches of green and butterflies for the decor.

Decor above the craft table.  The girls created hats and scarves for themselves and their dolls, thanks to Nana.

And had a fashion show on a red carpet runway.

The table full of red, white and blue with special seats constructed for the dolls to sit too.

Pom pom embellishments for the chandelier

Clear glass vessels were used as the centerpiece display -- check out the floating butterflies in the bell jar.

And the big feature -- a dessert table by EyeCandy with treats for the dolls too!
Little parfaits, teensy popcorn miniature candied apples, tiny red velvet whoopie pies and the cutest mini three tiered cake were the stars in this red, white and blue table.
Custom designed sugar cookies by If So Inklined Calligraphy and Illustration
and gorgeous labels too!

The drink station with more glass vessels and polka dots!

Such an adorable party!
